With a total enrollment of 44,500 students, the School District of Omaha is the largest school district in Nebraska: 61 elementary schools, nine middle schools, seven senior high schools, three individualized study centers and the Career Center.

Instruction is as varied and diverse as the population, the district serves and includes special education for students from birth to age 21; a gifted and talented program; magnet schools with focus areas on math, science, technology, computer science, economics, and communication arts; foreign languages; English-as-a-Second Language; guidance; and Career and Technical Education.

Career and Technical Education courses include national programs with the Academy of Finance, Academy of Information Technology, and the Information Technology Career Custer Initiative; industrial technology and business. Over 450 students participate in internships on an annual basis.

The Adopt-A-School program is one of the largest and most active school-business partnerships in the country and has received national recognition.

Omaha Public Schools' Students win many national honors annually, including more than $18 million in post-secondary scholarships awarded to the graduating class of 2001.
